Ancnoc Malt Whiskey

Ancnoc Malt Whiskey

Production of Ancnoc began at the Knockdhu Distillery in 1894 following the discovery of several springs of the purest, crystal clear water on the southern slopes of th Knock Hill. At this time two pot stills could turn out 2500 gallons of spirit per week, motive power being supplied by a 16hp steam engine. Cottages were built for the workers and their families, creating a new community around the Distillery. Much has been done to modernise buildings and machinery, but very little has changed in the distillation process. The two originally designed pot stills remain, giving Knockdhu the same traditional, distinctive flavour as was first tasted more than 100 years ago.

anCnoc continues to flourish as a favourite of the whisky connoisseur given its quite unique characteristics. It is light yet complex, smooth yet challenging, with each twist and turn delivering a surprise. It has a soft, aromatic nose with a hint of honey and lemon in the foreground. It has an immediately recognisable amber colour and is sweet to taste followed by a fresh appetising fruitiness and a long smooth finish

Old Pulteney

Old Pulteney

An individual and evocative maritime-influenced single malt Scotch whisky produced at the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, in Wick. The core 12 year old expression has demonstrated double digit growth in the mature UK market as well as strong performance in all other key markets throughout the world in recent years. When the Pulteney Distillery was established in 1826 it was only accessible by sea. The raw materials required for production being brought in by sea, and the whisky was shipped out again by boat. Many of the distillery workers at that time were also employed as fishermen. Sadly, the herring fishing industry is no longer part of daily life in Wick but Pulteney Distillery continues to operate, distilling one of the finest malts available today.

The whisky itself is a deep amber colour, with the nose detecting a hint of sea air and it has a dry, medium-bodied and smooth taste with a clean, dry finish: faintly salty and with a slight sherry note.
