California
California
California has seen a run of outstanding vintages in both qualitative and quantitative terms over the first decade of this century, and this has allowed for continued growth in the global market. As a country they have lead innovation in wine in the UK market and in 2010 we hope to see a continuation of this trend.
In the On Trade California showed the strongest growth in the New World at over 7.5%, reflecting the consumer’s continued love affair with the light and accessible style of Rosé wine which has come to dominate. Challenging harvests are balanced out by increased vineyard plantings and so while there is some price fluctuation it is minimal, allowing California to continue to compete as a credible entry level wine provider. One change out of the states is a change in legislation as White Zinfandel becomes Zinfandel Rosé across almost all producers.
